Black History Month Essay Contest Theme: Florida’s First: African American Pioneers in Florida The Black History Month Essay Contest is open to all middle and high school students in Duval County. Typed entries must be based on this year’s theme and no longer than 500 words.
For the 14th year, the Florida Prepaid College Foundation sponsored the Governor’s Annual Black History Month Essay Contest for 4th through 12th grade students throughout Florida. The essay contest celebrates Black History Month and honors the historic contributions and accomplishments of African-American leaders, educators, and entertainers from Florida.
Applicants must be Florida students in grades 4-12 and compose an essay on the given topic. Winners receive a four-year full scholarship to a Florida state college or university and a trip to the Governor's Black History Month celebration.
